Ufazine “Pete” Caldwell
  WATER VALLEY: Ms. Ufazine “Pete” Caldwell, age 69, died in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford on Wednesday, January 3, 2007.
  A daughter of the late Eddie and Everlina Jones Caldwell, she was formerly a Dietary Aid at Yalobusha General Hospital. Ms. Caldwell was a member of Chapel Hill M.B. Church and was a former usher of the church.
  Both visitation and the service will be held at Chapel Hill M.B. Church on Saturday, January 13, 2007. Visitation will begin at 11:00 a.m.. and continue until the 1:00 p.m.. service time.. Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley. Seven Oaks Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
  Ms. Caldwell leaves her son, Lee Caldwell of Water Valley.
  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Melzine Winters.


Everlene Hawkins
  WATER VALLEY: Mrs. Everlene Hawkins, 59, died December 30, 2006, at Greenwood in the Greenwood/Leflore Hospital.
  Born April 23, 1947, Mrs. Hawkins was a daughter of the late George and Ilene Folson. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Ella Qua Hall. She worked for Glenn Slacks Enterprise. Educated in the Davidson School at Water Valley, Mrs. Hawkins was a member of Oak Grove C.M.E. Church, Water Valley, where she was president of the Usher Board, was a stewardess, and a missionary.
  Funeral services were held Saturday, January 6, 2007, at one o’clock in the afternoon in the Water Valley City Auditorium, with Rev. Michael Stephens officiating. Burial was in the Oak Grove Church Cemetery, with Eddie Robinson & Son Funeral Director in charge.
  Survivors include: her husband, William Hawkins of Water Valley; two sons, Craig Hawkins and Case Hawkins, both of Water Valley; and five brothers, George Folson, Jr. of Las Vegas, Nevada, Charles Folson of Memphis, Luther Folson, Rufus Folson, and Freddie Folson, all of Water Valley.


Peggy M. Howell
  WATER VALLEY: Peggy M. Howell, age 78, of Water Valley died Monday, January 8, 2007, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
  Mrs. Howell was raised in Holly Springs. She was a loving mother and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Water Valley.
  Funeral services will be held at ten o’clock in the morning Wednesday, January 10, 2007. The committal will be held in St. Peters Cemetery in Oxford at 11:30 a.m.., with Terry Warren, Greg Jones, Burney Howell, Mark Stewart, Joe Newman, and Jimmy Holloway serving as pallbearers. The members of the Grand Slam Bridge Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.
  Mrs. Howell is survived by: her husband, Hershel B. Howell of Water Valley; a daughter, Holly Kay Moore of Dwight, Illinois; four sons, Trent Lee Howell of Water Valley, Paul Byron Howell of Gulfport, Rex Dean Howell of Water Valley, and James Mark Howell of Anchorage, Alaska; fifteen grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Marcus McCall and Mrs. Kay Deare.


Maggie Doris Moffett
  OXFORD: Mrs. Maggie Doris Moffett, age 76, died December 24, 2006, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
  Mrs. Moffett was a retired seamstress. She was born April 3, 2030, in Meridian. Mrs. Moffett was a member of Cornerstone Church in Water Valley.
  Funeral services were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Wednesday, December 27, 2006, in Latham Funeral Home, Water Valley, with Bro. R. W. Moffett officiating. Burial was in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens, located south of Water Valley, with Lee Hoop, Darrell Blanton, Jerry Moffett, Kenny Hughes, Fred Brown, and Dean Varner, as pallbearers.
  Survivors include: her husband, Rev. Eugene Moffett of Oxford; one son, Rev. R. W. Moffett of Water Valley; a brother, Charles Maggard of Meridian; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild

Ernest F. Shelton
  BYHALIA: Ernest F. Shelton, age 80, formerly of Water Valley, died at his home in Byhalia on January 6, 2007.
  Mr. Shelton was retired from Armour-Dial Company, where he worked as a Maintenance Mechanic. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holly Springs and served his church as a Deacon. Mr. Shelton served his country as a member of the United States Army during World War II and will be remembered by many as manager of the old Valley Theatre in Water Valley.
  Funeral services will be held in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home at one o’clock in the afternoon Wednesday, January 10, 2007, with D. Curtis Ferrell officiating. Interment will follow in Bethel Cemetery in Water Valley.
  Survivors include: his wife of sixty years, Bettye Whiteside Shelton of Byhalia; two sons, Dennis M. Shelton of Byhalia and Ernest G. Shelton of Daytona Beach, Florida; one brother, Everette E. Shelton of Coldwater; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
  Preceding Mr. Shelton in death were: his parents, Dalton E. Shelton and Tisha Gibson Shelton; and a sister, Elsie Parker.
