December 15th

  Brenda Wilson Henderson, 55, died Thursday, December 8, 2005.
  Funeral services for Mrs. Henderson were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, December 10, 2005, in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home, with Rev. Raymond Aven and Rev. Ken Gray officiating. Burial was in Elam Cemetery, Coffeeville, with Ricky Ragon, Paul Ferguson, Steven Ragon, Justin Ragon, Greg Langham and Steve Hardy as pallbearers. Honoray pallbearers were Cody Downs and Dillon Stribling.
  Born December 4, 1950, Mrs. Henderson was a daughter of the late Durrell Wilson and Eura Hardy. She was also preceded in death by one sister, Joan Allene Downs. Mrs. Henderson was a retired sales clerk and a member of Camp Ground Baptist Church.
  Survivors include: three sons, Chraistopher Heath Stribling, Michael Lauren Stribling, both of Water Valley, and Martin Doubleday of Batesville; four sisters, Barbara Organ of Grenada, Jimmie Sholly of Memphis, Dorothy Emerick and Sue Hill, both of Water Valley; two brothers, Johnny Wilson and Buddy Wilson, both of Scobey.

December 22nd

  WATER VALLEY: Graveside services for Mrs. Martha Vaughn Bankston, 84, were held in the Sylva Rena Cemetery at two o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, December 18, 2005, with Charlie Shuffield officiating. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
  Mrs. Bankston died Friday, December 16, 2005.
  Born March 18, 1921, in Water Valley, she was a daughter of the late James I. and Sarah Francis Pullen Vaughn. Mrs. Bankston was a retired seamstress for Big Yank Corporation and she was a member of North Main Methodist Church. Her husband, the late Ed Bankston, died July 21, 1989. She was also preceded in death by: four sisters, Frances Shuffield, Nina Gregory, Virginia Baddley, and Jimmie Mae McDonald.
  Mrs. Bankston is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Barbara Bankston Fleming and son-in-law, Larry Flemming of Water Valley, and one granddaughter.

  OXFORD: Miss Justin Marie Groner, 19, died Wednesday, December 7, 2005, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
  Funeral services for Miss Groner were held at one o’clock in the afternoon Thursday, December 8, 2005, in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, with Rev. Charles Lipe officiating. Burial was in the Clear Creek Cemetery, near Oxford.
  Justin was a member of Clear Creek Baptist Church. She was a special child at North Mississippi Regional Center.
  Survivors include: her parents, Donna and Randy Groner of Oxford; one sister, Angie Groner of Oxford; two brothers, Chris Groner and Harley Camp, both of Oxford; and her grandfather, William S. Groner of Oxford.

  WATER VALLEY: Sandi Simmons Little, 40, died at her home in Water Valley Wednesday, December 14, 2005.
  Funeral services for Ms. Little were held at ten o’clock in the morning Monday, December 19, 2005, in the Chapel of National Funeral Home in Grenada. Burial was in Grenada Memorial Gardens.
  Ms. Little was the Assistant Band Director/ Music Teacher at Water Valley High School.
  Survivors include: a daughter, Kelly Little of Jonesboro, Arkansas; one son, Jonathon Little of Oxford, Arkansas; her parents, Thomas and Shirley Simmons of Grenada; one sister, Tommi Prather of Pace, Florida; and a brother, Christopher Simmons of Grenada.

  WATER VALLEY: Mrs. Mary Ophelia Nicholas Madden, 78. died Tuesday, December 13, 2005.
  Funeral services for Mrs. Madden were held at ten o’clock in the morning Saturday, December 17, 2005, in Union West Baptist Church. Burial was in Browning Cemetery in Lafayette County, with Dean Varner, Clay Webb, Gilbert Varner, Ronnie Nicholas, Ross Sansom, Wayne Sansom, Tony Hardy, and Billie Nicholas as pallbearers. Honorary pallbeaers were Ray Nicholas, Roger Nicholas, Robert Nicholas, Jim Gholson, and Garland Gholson. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
  Born February 16, 1927, in Taylor, Mrs. Madden was a daughter of the late Charlie Wesley and Eutha Celeste Sansom Nicholas. Her husband was the late John Madden. Mrs. Madden was a retired photographer and a member of Union West Baptist Church.
Survivors include: two daughers, Ms. Beth Madden and Ms. Ruth Madden, both of Conroe, Texas; a sister, Mrs. Celeste Mattlage of Crawford, Texas; and one brother, Rev. Wesley Nicholas of Oxford.

  MT. PLEASANT: Carla Elizabeth Pauly, 37, of Mt. Pleasant died Thursday, December 15, 2005, in Baptist East at Memphis.
  Funeral services for Mrs. Pauly were held in the Holly Spring Funeral Home at two o’clock in the afternoon Sunday, December 18, 2005, with Bro. David Bishop officiating. Burial was in Boswell Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant.
  Born November 20, 1968, in Memphis, she was the daughter of Carl Bobbitt and Elizabeth Boswell Bobbit. She was a member of Slayden Baptist Church and was a teacher’s aid at Marshall County School.
  Survivors include: her husband, David Pauly of Mt. Pleasant; a son, David Thomas Pauly of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Elizabeth Joyce Pauly and Davanie Alice Pauly, both of Mt. Pleasant; her mother, Elizabeth Bobbit and her step-father, Jimmy Bobbit of Mt. Pleasant; and four sisters, Tammy Simmons, Carol Gates, and Exyah Watkins, all of Mt. Pleasant, and Susan Taylor of Water Valley.

  WATER VALLEY: Toy J. Sutherland, 77, died Saturday, December 17, 2005.
  Funeral services for Mr. Sutherland were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Monday, December 19, 2005, in Mt. Liberty Church, with Bro. Ed Barlow, Bro. Steve Standard, and Bro. Dan Dickerson officiating. Burial was in the Mt. Liberty Cemetery with Phillip Dickey, Allen Dickey, Dennis Sutherland, Larry Kimzey, Robert Samuel Sutherland, and Dorris Cain as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Rayford Edgar, Curtis Berry, Hubert Sanders, Jack Craven, Crip Tyler, Wallace Forsyth, Paul Parker, Tommy Ashford, Charles Heath, Bobby Heath, Barney Pullen, Bill Larson, Jack Grass, Gene Simpson, and Glynn Gabbert. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
  Born December 11, 1928, Mr. Sutherland was a son of the late Robert Chester and Birdie Zelma Dickey Sutherland. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Russell Sutherland. He was a U. S. Navy verteran of the Korean War. Mr. Sutherland was a member of Mt. Liberty Church, where he served as song leader, Sunday School Teacher, and Deacon. He was a retired U. S. Postal Services employee and served the Water Valley Post Office for many years.
  Survivors include: his wife, Sammie Carothers Sutherland of Water Valley; a daughter, Cindy Sutherland Dickey of Water Valley; one son, Tim Sutherland of Pittsboro; two sisters, Syble Dickey and Ruby Barlow, both of Water Valley; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

  MEMPHIS: A memorial service for John Byron Shelton will be held at 6 p.m. on Friday, December 30, 2005, in Bethel Baptist Church at Water Valley.
  John died December 18, 2005 in Memphis.
  He was preceded in death by a brother, James Edward Shelton, Jr.
  Born August 2, 1958, in Oakland, California, John is a son of James Edward and Betty Jane Shelton of Memphis, formerly of Water Valley. He owned and operated Shelton Appliance in Memphis. John enjoyed motorcycles and sportscars, especially his classic Porsche and Harley.
  Survivors include: a daughter, Jana Beth Shelton of Memphis; his parents, James Edward and Betty Jane Shelton of Memphis; his brother, Joel Richard Shelton of Memphis; and three step-sons, Patrick Card, Thomas Card, and Jeffrey Opp. Many of the friends and family his parents wished to mention are Johnny, Keith, Linda Kay, Jimmy, Pam, Rick, Randy, Kris, Angie, Darby, John D., David, Mike, Nany, Rodney, Kasey, Kim, Gary, Paul, Frankie, Linda P., Tom, Lisa, Chris, Mindy, Betty B., Carlos, and Dolly.
