William D. Corlew
  WATER VALLEY: William D. Corlew, age 53, of Water Valley died Monday, November 27, 2006, in Water Valley. The son of the late William D. and Darlese C. Taylor Corlew, he was an insurance salesman. Mr. Corlew was a U. S. Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War.
  Visitation was held Thursday, November 3, at Seven Oaks Funeral Home in Water Valley. A memorial service will be held by the family at a later date.
  Mr. Corlew is survived by: a daughter, Felicia June Savage; a son, William Jarrod Corlew; his mother, Martha Corlew, and a daughter, Sandy Lott, all of Water Valley; a sister, Belinda Patterson of Memphis; a brother, Eddie Taylor of Memphis; two grandchildren; and a host of adopted children and grandchildren.


Angela G. Neely
  WATER VALLEY: Angela G. Neely, 26, died Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at her home in Water Valley.
  Born March 1, 1980, in Water Valley, she was a graduate of Water Valley High School and Northwest Mississippi Junior College. Ms. Neely was a teacher at MAP Headstart in Water Valley. She was a member of the House of Prayer Church of God in Christ in Water Valley.
  Funeral services were held at noon Saturday, December 2, 2006, in the House of Prayer Church of God in Christ at Water Valley. Burial was in Green Goshen Cemetery, near Water Valley. Elder Moses Wright presided at the services.
Eddie Robinson & Son Funeral Directors had charge of arrangements.
  Survivors include: two sons, Deontavis Jones and Deshuntrez Jones, both of Water Valley; two sisters, Debbis Rowsey and Trina Jones, both of Oxford; four brothers, Fred Neely of Memphis, Mark Neely and Michael Neely, both of Water Valley; her father, Junior Neely, her mother, Geneva Neely, and a grandfather, Amos Rowsey, all of Water Valley.


Forrest “Buddy” Peacock
  WATER VALLEY: Forrest “Buddy” Peacock, age 82, died Sunday, December 3, 2006, at Oxford in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi.
  Visitation was held from 5:30 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, 2006, in Latham Funeral Home at Water Valley.
  He was a self-employed painter. Mr. Peacock was a member of First Christian Church of Water Valley.
  Survivors include: a daughter, Sherry Peacock of Water Valley; four sons, Eddie Peacock, Robin Peacock and Ricky Peacock, all of Water Valley, and Randy Peacock of Coffeeville; 12 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Lucille B. Henson
  WATER VALLEY: Lucille B. Henson, 79, died December 8, 2006, in Baptist East Hospital at Memphis.
  Mrs. Henson, formerly of Crawfordsville, Arkansas, was a retired grocery store owner.
  Funeral services were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, December 9, 2006 in the Chapel at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Memphis, Arkansas. Burial was in Crittenden Memorial Park in Marion, Arkansas.
  She is survived by: three daughters, Sherry Pipkin of Water Valley, Nancy Dickey of Gremantown, Tennessee, and Faye Cooper of Nesbit; one sister, Sue Matthews of Walnut; one brother, Lawrence Byard of West Memphis; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.


Michael T. Jones
  WATER VALLEY: Micheal T. Jones, 27, died November 28, 2006, in Water Valley.
  Mr. Jones was born May 15, 1979 and was educated in Water Valley High School. He was a member of Pine Grove East M.B. Church.
  Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 6, 2006, at one o’clock in the afternoon, in the Water Valley Civic Auditorium in Water Valley. Rev. Johnny Roland officiated. Burial was in Rocky Mountain M.B. Church Cemetery.
  Survivors include: two sons, Deontavus Jones and Deshuntree Jones, both of Water Valley; three brothers, Jason Jones, Johnthan Telford and Arthur Telford, all of Water Valley; his mother, Lisa Telford, his father, Brian Shaw, and his step-father, Jerry Telford, all of Water Valley.


Elizabeth Stevens
  ALEXANDRIA, VA: Elizabeth Lee Stevens, 93, of Alexandria, Virginia, died Thursday, November 30, 2006, at Ruxton Health Alexandria after a short illness. Born in Water Valley on May 29, 1913, the daughter of Mortimer M. and Mary Lou Turner, Elizabeth was a graduate of Water Valley High School. In 1933, she married William R. “Bill” Stevens, when a senior at the University of Mississippi. During their long marriage, she and Bill lived in New Jersey, California, Germany, and Saudi Arabia, before finally settling in Alexandria, Virginia. Elizabeth was an active homemaker and a member at Westminster Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday School.
  She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and her brother, M. M. (Mike) Turner, Jr. of Climax Springs, Missouri. She is survived by: her son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Sherry Stevens of Oxnard, California, and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary S. and Donald J. Krysakowski of Dillsburg, Pennsylvania, and four grandchildren.
  A graveside service will be held at one o’clock in the afternoon Wednesday, December 13, 2006, in Oak Hill Cemetery at Water Valley.
  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Elizabeth’s honor may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2701 Cameron Mills Road, Alexandria, Virginia 22302.


Bro. William Elvis “Bunt” Vance
  GRENADA: Bro. William Elvis “Bunt” Vance, 85, died December 7, 2006, in the Grenada Lake Medical Center.
  Funeral services for Bro. Vance were held at two o’clock in the afternoon Saturday, December 9, 2006, in National Funeral Home Chapel at Grenada, with Bro. Jimmy Vance and Bro. Bennie Vance officiating. Burial was in Providence Cemetery at Gore Springs.
  Bro. Vance was a retired minister. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge. A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was a member of the VFW and DAV.
  Survivors include: his wife, Doris Vance of Grenada; two daughters, Sherra Carpenter of Gore Springs and Sheila Barrett of Grenada; three sons, Bro. Harvey Vance of Coffeeville, Roy Vance of Water Valley, and Bro. Bennie Vance of Grenada; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ora Mae Booker
  OXFORD: Ora Mae Ragland Booker, age 96, died Saturday, December 16, 2006, in Yalobusha General Hospital, Water Valley.
  A native of Lafayette County, Mrs. Booker was the widow of William Booker. She was a member of Bayson Chapel M.B. Chuch, where she was on the Mother’s Board. She loved to cook, sew, quilt, knit, crochet, travel, and canning food.
  Funeral services will be held at eleven o’clock in the morning Thursday, December 21, 2006, in Bayson Chapel Church, near Water Valley, with Rev. Amos Sims officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Kenneth I. Roberson Funeral Home of Pontotoc is in charge of arranagements. Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
  Survivors include: one daugher, Reba (James) Willingham of Oxford; eight sons, Willie (Barbara) Booker of Riverside, California, Walter (Shirley) Booker of Millington, Tennessee, Thomas (Edna) Booker of Kent, Washington, Hilria (Carleitha) Booker of Chicago, Illinois, James (Rosie) Booker, David (Bessie) Booker, Donald Booker, all of Seattle, Washington, and George (Naomi) Booker of Jacksonville, Alabama; one sister, Orrie Pollard of Chicago; three brothers, James Herman Ragland of Lake Providence, Louisiana, Hiriam (Ola) Ragland of Chicago, and Eugene (Shirley) Ragland of Harvey, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Zenia Ragland of Oxford and Mamie Ragland of Memphis; 34 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.


Margaret Wade Craddock
  WATER VALLEY: Margaret Wade Craddock, 59, died December 15, 2006, at home with family and friends.
  Mrs. Craddock was born January 8, 1947, and was a graduate of Water Valley HighSchool. She was a member of the First Christian Church from 1957 until her death. She served as Sunday School Teacher, Ladies Circle President, and VBS Craft Coordinator.
  A Memorial Service was held Monday, December 18, 2006, in the First Christian Church at Water Valley at six o’clock in the evening. Visitation was held after the service.
  Survivors include: her husband, William D. Craddock of Water Valley; two daughters, Pamela E. Taylor of Water Valley and Cheryl L. Thomas of Southaven; one son, Michael W. Eubanks of Water Valley; four sisters, Kay W. Newman of Bruce, Vickie Johnson of Water Valley, Bonnie James of Water Valley, and Connie West of Water Valley; and four grandchildren.
  She was preceded in death by her parents, R. T. (Jack) Wade and Sally Few Wade.

Thelma E. Wheeler
  WATER VALLEY: Thelma E. Wheeler, age 88, of Water Valley passed away Thursday, December 14, 2007, in Yalobusha General Hospital at Water Valley.
  A daughter of the late Warren Charles Carnes and Rachel E. Cavanes Carnes, she was a retired Comptroller for the U.S. Air Force. Mrs. Wheeler was a member of St. Johns Catholic Church in Oxford and a member of the local V.F.W. Women’s Auxiliary.
  No local servies are planned, however a memorial service is planned for Mrs. Wheeler at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2006, where she will be laid to rest beside her husband, Jack A. Wheeler, who died June 12, 1994. Seven Oaks Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
  Survivors include: her daughter, Jackie Ward of Water Valley; a son, Jack L. Wheeler of Oxford; sisters, Lucille Brown of Bennettsville, South Carolina and Elizabeth Workman of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
  The family request in lieu of flowers or food that memorials be made to either Woodland Hills Baptist Church, P. O. Box 801, Water Valley, MS 38965, or St. Johns Catholic Church in Oxford, MS.


L.V. Woodard
  WATER VALLEY: L. V. Woodard died December 16, 2006, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
  Mr. Woodard was born October 23, 1939, in Yalobusha County.
  Survivors include: one daugher, Theresa Harvey (Mossie Ann) of Peoria, Illinois; three sisters, Betty Woodard, Edith Woodard and Ivory Belcher, all of Water Valley; and three brothers, James Woodard and Dave Woodard of Water Valley, and Clinton Woodard of Memphis.
  Mr. Woodard was preceded in death by: his parents, Clinton and Rachel Woodard; a sister, Mary Telford; and four brothers, L. D. Woodard, Luther Woodard, Alvin Woodard, and Bill Woodard.
  Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 23, 2006 at one o’clock in the afternoon in the City Auditorium, located in Water Valley. Burial will be at Rocky Mountain M.B. Church in Coffeeville.
  Visitation will be held Friday, December 22nd, from 1:00-5:00 p.m. in Robinson Funeral Home.

Eric Scott Amos
  BRANDON: Eric Scott Amos, age 36, of Brandon died Tuesday, December 19, 2006, at U.A.B. Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a disabled construction supervisor.
  A memorial service was held at eleven o’clock in the morning on Friday, December 22, 2006, at St. Paul Catholic Church on Lakeland Drive in Jackson.
  Mr. Amos is survived by: his wife, Jennifer H. Amos of Brandon; a son Stephen Gerrit Amos of Brandon; his mother, Patricia Anne Amos of Brandon; and three brothers, Greg Amos of Madison, Chris Amos of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Brian Amos of Brandon. He is a son-in-law of Bro. and Mrs. Steve Hentz of Water Valley.
  Mr. Amos was preceded in death by his father, Gerrit Keith Amos.


Genevieve Carter
  WARSAW, NC: Ms. Genevieve Carter, age 81, of Warsaw, North Carolina passed away Saturday, November 25, 2006, in Boaz, Alabama.
  Born September 9, 1925, to the late Rudolph Duffy Carter and wife, Lucy Jean Batchelor Carter, of Duplin County, Ms. Carter was a member of the Unity United Methodist Church of Warsaw.
  Surviving are: one brother, Harvey Carter, and wife, Jane, of Boaz, Alabama; two sisters, Anne Carter Larson, and husband, James, of Water Valley, and Shirley Carter Stevens, and husband, Donald, of Fayetteville.
  A memorial service was held Saturday, December 2, 2006, at eleven o’clock in the monring in Community Chapel, Community Funeral Home of Warsaw. The Reverend Robert Bandy officiated.

Ruby Nell Calloway Greenwood Johnson
  OAKLAND: Ruby Nell Calloway Greenwood Johnson, age 75, of Oakland (formerly of Warren, Arkansas) died Friday, December 22, 2006, in Wagnon Place Nursing Home.
  Born May 17, 1931, in Chicot County, Arkansas, she was a daughter of the late Robert Calloway and Myrtle Huitt Calloway. Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, a member of First Baptist Church in Water Valley, and a former member of Farmville Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by a husband, Raymond Greenwood, who died September 10, 1994. Also, preceding her in death were brothers, Tollie Calloway, Carl Calloway, and sisters, Louise Baldwin, Marie Jackson, and Verna Mae Calloway.
  Survivors are: her husband, Rubin Johnson, whom she married October 29, 2005; one step-daughter, Margrette Johnson of Crossett, Arkansas; two brothers, Klondis Calloway of Warren, Arkansas and Merle Calloway of Roseburg, Oregon; two step-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
  Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, December 24, 2006, in Frazer’s Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe McClellan and Rev. Terry Greenwood officiating. Janice Sullivan was organist. Burial was in Moseley Cemetery by Frazer’s Funeral Home. Active pallbearers were Bob Calloway, Heath Calloway, Tim Calloway, Dustin Calloway, Dillon Smith, and Russell Smith.

  WATER VALLEY: E. G. Minor, 74, died December 21, 2006, in Baptist Memorial Hospital—North Mississippi at Oxford.
  Born December 31, 1931, Mr. Minor was a son of the late John and Ellar Minor. He was educated in the Webster County Schools and was a retired construction worker. Mr. Minor was a member of Everdale M.B. Church in Water Valley.
  Funeral services were held at 12:00 Noon December 27, 2006, in Everdale Baptist Church, with Rev. Phillip Brackett officiating. Buial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Water Valley.
  Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Bernice Minor of Water Valley; two sons, Barry Minor of Memphis and Warren Minor of Horn Lake; two daughters, Elaine Robinson of Water Valley and Deborah Minor of Itta Bena; and three sisters, Johnnie Bailey, Lavern Cook, and Aretha Minor, all of Water Valley.

Alice Brewer Phillips
  BATESVILLE: Alice Brewer Phillips, age 93, died Tuesday afternoon, December 19, 2006, of heart failure.
  Funeral services for Mrs. Phillips were held at eleven o’clock in the morning Friday, December 22, 2006, in Wells Funeral Home at Batesville. Interment was in Forrest Memorial Park Cemetery, Batesville.
  Born September 27, 1913, in Panola County, Mrs. Phillips was a daughter of the late Eugene and Onnie Jane Tippitt Brewer. A homemaker, Mrs. Phillips was retired from Reliance Manufacturing Company in Water Valley. She was the widow of Red S. Phillips. Mrs. Phillips was a member of Liberty Hill Baptist Church, Courtland.
  Survivors include: two daughers, Rebecca Jean Phillips Cathey of Memphis and Nancy Phillips Ise of Newport Beach, California; one son, Jack B. Phillips of Ripley, Tennessee; seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.


Gloria Juanita Pilcher
  ANDERSON, IN: Gloria Juanita Pilcher, age 74, of Anderson, Indiana, died Monday, December 18, 2006. She was a daughter of the late Otis and Hazel Trusty.
  Funeral services were held at eleven o’clock Friday, December 22, 2006, with Bro. Forest Poindexter presiding. The committal was held in Mt. Liberty Cemetery with Darin Pilcher, Kenneth Pilcher, Jr., William Pilcher, Kenneth Pilcher, Zach Nolan, and Michael Doherty serving as pallbearers.
  Survivors include: two daughters, Janet Durham of Green Cone Springs, Florida and Jaylene Bear of Anderson, Indiana; three sons, Kenneth Pilcher, Jr. of Olive Branch, Darin Pilcher of Elgin, Illinois, and William Pilcher of Olive Branch; three sisters, Jean Baggett of Water Valley; Barbara Walz of Crete, Illinois, and Beulah Biesterfeld of Crete, Illinois; one brother, John Trusty of Joliet, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.


Susie Lorene Ray Tidwell
  WATER VALLEY: Mrs. Susie Lorene Ray Tidwell, 67, died December 16, 2006, at her home in Water Valley.
  Funeral services for Mrs. Tidwell were held at ten o’clock in the morning Monday, December 18, 2006, in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home at Oxford. with Bro. David Freeman officiating. Burial was in Yellow Leaf Cemetery, near Oxford.
  Mrs. Tidwell was a member of Pine Flat Methodist Church. She was the owner of Tidwell Salvage Grocery and she enjoyed reading and going to yard sales. She was retired from Whirlpool. Her husband was the late Earnest Earl Tidwell.
  Survivors include: one daughter, Dana Lorene Winters, and her husband, Tony, of Oxford; a son, David Alan Tidwell, and his wife, Bea, of Water Valley; two sisters, Annie Miller of Oxford and Juanita Martin of Water Valley; two brothers, James Ray of Water Valley and Johnnie Ray of Madison; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
